Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): ‘Baad Az Khuda Buzurg Tu Hi Qissah Mukhtasar’

Syed Shahab U Din Andrabi

Ever since the proclamation made by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that he is the Messenger of Allah, the Highest, his personality has been unabatedly assailed.

When the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) publicly announced the inception of inspirations to him, the pagans of Makkah bruised him, insulted him and went to this nether point where they called him one brick short of a full load, a soothsayer and a magician.

To refute these nonsensical attributes, Allah revealed in Surah Takwir Chapter 81 Verse 22, “And your companion (Muhammad) is not at all mad.” Allah further revealed in Surah An-Najm Chapter 53 Verse 3-4 that: “Nor does he (Muhammad) speak from his own inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed.” Not only was the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) insulted, he was accosted with vituperations and obnoxious opprobrium. In this regard, Allah transpired in Surah Al Ahzab Chapter 33 Verse 57, “Indeed, those who abuse Allah and His Messenger-Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter and prepared for them a humiliating punishment.”

Those who use the invective language against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Allah informs us that His curse will be associated with them in this world and the Hereafter and they will be defenestrated into the hell-fire, the punishment of which is unbearable and unimaginable.

This trend even perpetuated in the modern age. Many non-Muslims in general and orientalists in particular have amply tried to defile the personality of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by calling him a pedophile on his marriage with Mother Aisha (May Allah be Pleased with Her). Many orientalists have gone to the extent of saying that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was suffering from epilepsy, a neurological disorder.

Guibert de Nogent unreservedly raved that, “Muhammad died through excessive drunkenness and his corpse was eaten up by pigs.” If this hurtful invented saying is put to the test of objectivity and historical record, any unprejudiced person who is well acquainted with the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will disprove it with unmatched perspicacity in his arguments.

Allah, the Most High says in Surah Al An’am Chapter 6 Verse 10, “And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by that which they used to ridicule.”

Allah, the Highest, addresses the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and sooths him with the erudition that he alone is not excruciated whilst pursuing and asserting the truth, the prophets (PBUT) who came before him were confronted with the same fierce hostility with which the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is assailed.

The verse ominously warns those who insult or hurl invectives at the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that they are going to be dealt with the same divine retribution as was meted out with the people who ridiculed the prophets (PBUT) who came prior to the advent of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Since the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the final messenger of Allah, the Highest, the anti-Islam intelligentsia will never stop disparaging the auspicious and valuable personality of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) till doomsday.

These ignoble attempts can never obliterate the personality of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) whatsoever. However, the hapless ramification that will descend upon those using chronic, unjust and abusive language against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is quite horrendous and immutable in both the worlds.

At the conquest of Makkah, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) announced the general amnesty holistically but this approach was accompanied by an exception. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the head of the state didn’t forgive three people at the conquest:

  • The one who resorted to the mortification of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
  • The one who turned apostate after accepting Islam
  • The one who deceptively killed a Muslim

During the times of Umar (RA), a man insulted the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and when this was proven Umar (RA) sentenced the person to death. After this event Umar (RA) said, “Whoever insults Allah or one of the prophets, assassinate him.”

This assertion of Umar (RA) has to be fathomed with a proper context. Umar (RA) was the Caliph at that time hence he established a precedence that whosoever becomes the caliph after him should not pull his punches if he is exposed to the substance that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has been insulted.

As the caliph he should take severe and stout steps along with fairness to ensure that the insulter is punished, creating an ambiance of sinister for those preposterous people who harbor grudges for the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

In the recent past, we witnessed that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was again insulted and abused with much more hostility and disparagement. In this volatile ambiance what should be the response of Muslims? Since the countries have adopted un-Islamic approaches at the political level therefore Quranic laws become extraneous and obsolete to them in the present age.

We should whilst maturely maintaining our composure showcase the unacceptability to these incidents as it sears our hearts. At the same time, we should dissuade giving importance to these issues because the truth will be assailed uninterruptedly till doomsday and when the vice doers are accounted for what they used say against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), no one can salvage them from the severe punishment of hell-fire.
