Kazak TV : The work has started on a detailed study of the technical condition of the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum, from its foundation to its dome in order to preserve one of the most unique and outstanding monuments of medieval architecture in Central Asia. A group of experts of the Kazakh Research and Design Institute of Construction and Architecture (KSRICA), consisting of scientists and researchers, was involved in the expert work, reported representatives of the “Azret Sultan” State Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museum. Best scientists and experts will study the suitability and durability of the mausoleum’s building materials under the influence of various internal and external factors. They will also research the technical condition of the largest brick dome. Based on its results, they will prepare recommendations, determine the suitability and durability of the necessary building materials as well as areas where it is necessary to carry out restoration work. “According to our current data, the foundation of the mausoleum is solid and in a good condition. Restoration work in this direction has also yielded positive results. The walls and various parts of the building have been renovated. We determine the resistance to seismic and other conditions using special instruments. The final decision on the analysis will be made after the meeting of Almaty scientists. It is too early to talk about the construction durability of the mausoleum,” said the KSRICA Spokesperson Syrymbek Yerzhanov.
The mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi is a domed structure. The building is 37.5 meters high, 65 meters long, and 46.5 meters wide and has a huge portal, the arch of which is over 18 meters. There are also 35 rooms for various purposes around its central hall. Measures are constantly taken to preserve the historical monument. For example, last year, UNESCO experts analyzed the construction of the mausoleum as well.
